Courtenay: Baptismal Party Town

Elder Skyler Rushton with Vancouver Elders.

Hello family and friends! This week we were insanely busy, and I’ve only got an hour to email today because we are STILL insanely busy! But God has blessed us so much here in Courtenay, British Columbia; it’s amazing. Our nine year old friend got baptized here, and then another investigator got baptized in my first area by his brother, who was the first person I baptized on my mission! So amazing, it is just blowing my mind!

So we had nine investigators at church which was a LOT to handle, but the members helped out a lot! Then most of them stayed for the baptism afterward and they all LOVED it! She was baptized by her grandpa who used to be a “stake seventy” so his priesthood office is seventy! Then confirmed by him as well. She was so excited the whole time. I got the opportunity to speak on the Holy Ghost before her confirmation. Elder Shin, Elder Robinson and I got to participate and it was great. Then her dad’s girlfriend started crying during my talk and was sobbing by the end of the confirmation–she felt the spirit super strong! Then, the nine year old bore her testimony for us! It was short, but she said simply, “…I have never felt so happy before in my life. I know that God loves me.” So. Powerful. I myself even shed a tear or two. The Spirit is so real!

Also this week, we got to teach our Indian friends a lot! We covered almost every lesson with them, and then Sunday was one of their birthdays! He came to church, the baptism, a birthday party some members put on for him (now THAT is good fellowshipping!) and then a YSA activity we had organized that night. Literally almost all day Sunday we were hanging out with our investigators ha-ha! He did a Michael Jackson dance impersonation which was spot on! We had all our other investigators at all the parties too so if they don’t feel comfortable with the church now, I don’t know what will make them ha-ha!

We taught almost 40 lessons this week which was just unbelievable. I have never been so busy, tired, stressed or satisfied in my life! And now that it’s all over, I’m happy too :)   This was definitely one of those weeks on your mission that you will remember forever. I just want to share my brief testimony on the Holy Ghost. Jesus Christ promised it in John 14, it came in Acts 2, was conferred by the Apostles in Acts 8, and is with us today thanks to the prophet of the Restoration, Joseph Smith. I testify that God is real, that he is love and that He is still with us today. I love you all! Have a spectacular week!
