This was a really good week! We had pretty great results again this week and the work is going really well in Penticton! We haven’t had much luck with progressing people towards baptism, however, and it seems like we just have a revolving door of investigators every week. Nothing outright amazing happened this week, but in all honesty every new investigator to me seems like a miracle!
One of our investigators closest to baptism, isn’t looking good unfortunately. He and his family have dropped their last two appointments and last time I called to confirm our appointment, his dad answered and cancelled it. Then he told me that they would call us later… But I’ve been out long enough now to know that when they say that, they NEVER do. So we’ll try to call him later this week and stop by at some point. Our other investigator is not any closer to baptism either and every time we go over to their house, he is OFF THE WALLS! He has way too much energy haha, but I forgive him because he’s 11. He got Elder Bolkcom to drink some milk mixed with Mio shots on Sunday, so that was funny to watch. But yeah, no one is very on track for baptism at this point anymore!
But like I said, it was still a good week! We did exchanges with the zone leaders on Tuesday and Elder Busby and I found a ton of new investigators in Penticton. But they all stood us up on our return appointments!! Elder Bolkcom and I have recently been tracting a lot of low income housing–aka, where the humble people live. And we’ve been having a lot of success! However, I have never been in such sketchy places IN MY LIFE before!! So it’s scary sometimes, but this scripture has been helping me a lot with that!:
“Behold, I speak with boldness, having authority from God; and I fear not what man can do; for perfect love casteth out all fear.” [Moroni 8:16]
So I’ve been trying to develop that perfect love for our investigators lately! But it’s hard, because they’re so frustrating sometimes haha, “Just come to church!” -Sis. Voyles, The District
So apart from me making random nerdy missionary jokes, I got to be interviewed by President Tilleman this week! There are 280 missionaries here, and it was the first interview I’ve had with him since I got here. It was really good, ours were really short because he spent most of his time with the sisters in the area. All he really did for me was tell me I was doing great and then asked how many baptisms I wanted before I left Penticton. I told him, “Well President, I want to get at least one more here!” But hopefully that doesn’t stop him from transferring me in the future, because I’ve been in Penticton my whole mission thus far haha. But it’s a nice place, so I don’t mind. I really want to go up North though, now THAT would be sweet!
Well that’s about it for this week! I’ve got two scriptures I want to share with you before I go. The first is one of my absolute favorites from the four gospels of the New Testament, John 11:25-26: “…I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live: 26. And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die.” I don’t know why I like it so much, but it is a scripture filled with hope and I love it! The wording touches my soul every time I read it!
And the second one is not too far from the first; it is also the perfect way to close off this e-mail!: John 14:27: “Peace I leave with you, my peace I five unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.”
I love all of you, friends and family! I hope all of you have a wonderful week and are safe! I will talk to you all later, have an awesome week!
