Penticton, Home to Just About Everything… And Me! Jan 20th Letter

Elder Skyler Rushton and his companions in Penticton, Canada

Sorry the title isn’t very creative… I just couldn’t think of a good way to start!

So this week was pretty good actually! There were a lot of ups, and there were a lot of downs, but we learned a lot and we will keep pushing forward! Leo will not be getting baptized soon, unfortunately, he is having girl problems at school and they are getting in the way of him investigating the church for now. That’s just more evidence to me that I am REALLY happy I’m not a High Schooler any more hahaha, And that girls stink… Haha no, just kidding! Only girls without the Gospel stink!

Monday and Tuesday were very average and nothing big happened except Elder Bolkcom and I tracted in some low income housing and came out smelling like marajuana… so that was fun. But we also found new investigators! We’re planning a trip to Naramata next week (about 10-min from Penticton and supposedly the pot-capital of B.C.) so that should make for an interesting time haha. This last week, I also built up the courage to drag Elder Bolkcom to the Reserve again to try and find new investigators! It was sketchy–we went at like 6:30 PM– and we saw, no joke, a herd of pit bulls running around! The locals always warn us about them, so we’ll have to be extra careful when we go back there.

On Wednesday, we went on exchanges! I was with Elder Mandin from Leftbridge, Alberta! Man, I have never met a more interesting Elder In my life. But we still got along ok! One less-active member, called us and gave us two referrals which both turned into new investigators! I think it’s super funny too because every referral the active members of the ward give us almost NEVER turn into new investigators. But I am happy that they try and give us referrals occasionally.

After Elder Bolkcom and I made friends with another investigator, we were introduced to the dark side of Penticton haha. He would always have friends over, then when we would go to teach him and then we would run into them on the street the next day! After that,  they would introduce us to their friends and now we have a ton of investigators in the low income housing and drug rehab center. But this Gospel changes lives and I have seen that change in these investigators. As the Spirit of Christ enters into their lives, something changes about them. They become happier, more sensitive to the spirit and some have really turned their lives around. Not very often do they get baptized, but I take comfort in the fact that Elder Bolkcom and I are really changing the lives of people in Penticton. I love helping God’s children and as long as I can do that, I will be happy! Now if only they would all get baptized haha…

Well unfortunately I’m out of time for the week! But I just want to leave you all by saying that I love all of you; every single one! You’ve all been great friends to me and I pray over you all the time! I hope you all have super great weeks and hopefully I will have some more fun stories to share with you next week! “God be with you ’till we meet (or e-mail…) again!”

With Love,

-Elder Rushton The Third
