Missions: Live, Die, Baptize

Elder Skyler Rushton

Elder Skyler Rushton with his companions.

Helloooo friends and family! It has been another miracle week in good ol’ Courtenay, British Columbia! We had transfer calls last night, and Elder Robinson and I are staying for at least 6 more weeks! Yay! But we are very sadly losing Elder Shin today–shipping him off to Richmond so he can fly home to New Zealand! He has completed his mission. He started off in Korean work for a year, was companion’s with my mission daddy, Elder Sly, baptized people who are truly his friends, brought down miracles from heaven and is now “dying” from this mission, leaving it better than when he found it. He has truly exemplified what a “Successful Missionary” is and I have loved serving with him. But this work must go on!

So this week we were crazy busy as always! We taught our East Indian YSA friends a lot and had tons of success there, found a number of new people to teach, got a free meal from a Korean restaurant simply because my companions could speak their language… It was a really good week! The highlight though, was Elder Shin saying goodbye to all of our members and investigators. We really saw SO many people, it was crazy! His key thing this week was, “This will be my last week at church here, it would mean SO MUCH to me if you came!!” And guess what–we ended up having 13 investigators at church. Holy Cow! I’ve never been so stressed before in my life!! The stress came because we had to organize rides there and back, keep them going from class to class and then suffer through an hour long presentation on Pornography Addiction for the last hour of church… That was quite the experience ha-ha. But they all really enjoyed church and especially hearing Elder Shin bear his testimony during sacrament meeting. I’ve also never come close to 13¬†at church, so it was cool to see that it could be done!

I got a sweet native tie this week too from the Tsimshian tribe of B.C. We all did actually, so that was cool. We were given a lot of stuff this week because the people here love Elder Shin SO MUCH!! And I do too ha-ha. His last lesson with one of our investigators and his kids was very emotional for all of us–and I’m not even the one leaving ha-ha! It really made me see that we really are accomplishing something out here, and that people’s lives are truly being changed. This work is amazing and I’m lucky to be a part of it! I love all of you so much and I hope you have a great week! God be with you till we talk again!!
